Dear UWIA Member,
I invite all property owners and interested community members to join our efforts in revitalizing our community. During the UWIA’s first year, we have accomplished many of the goals we set for our association. We have placed safety ambassadors on the streets and hired a maintenance team to power wash sidewalks, remove graffiti and promote overall cleanliness in Uptown. We have also hired a public relations company to promote our area and increase traffic to the district. We are currently in the process of hiring a company to develop and maintain a UWIA website that will provide details and keep you updated on the latest efforts of the association.
Recently, in an effort to increase visitors in Uptown, the UWIA partnered with Ford Motor Company to sponsor the “Buckle Up for Love” (Abrochate Por Amor) event in December 2018. The event took place on Greenleaf Avenue, in the heart of Uptown. Along with the Whittier Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Athens Services, Republic Services, local chef Dalton Wilson, State Farm Insurance (Fabio Soto Agency), and many other generous sponsors, the UWIA informed the local community about home and travel safety tips during the holidays. Through UWIA’s media relations efforts for this event, Uptown Whittier was featured in LA Parent, La Opinion and aired on Univision. There was also an essay contest where students from the local high schools were asked to write about the importance of safety belts in their lives. The contest, organized by Mayor Pro Tem Josue Alvarado, was a huge success and four students were each awarded $250.00 for their winning entries. The prize money was a result of a generous donation from Athens Services and Republic Services.
The UWIA board has been very busy and there is still a lot of work to do. We are committed to renewing and revitalizing our Uptown District and we hope we can count on your support and participation. If you are interested in making decisions in the areas of public safety, beautification, economic development, maintenance and promotions for your community – join our efforts! To become a board member or if you would like to be part of a committee, please contact Brent Haskell, our Executive Director, at brent@gmpropertiesinc.com or call 562 762-3112.
